Zelda Wii Teaser Trailer Shown at E3 2010

Legend of Zelda Wii RevealedUpdate : Although the game was not shown on the first day of E3 and initial reports turned out to be a hoax, The Legend of Zelda : Skyward Sword (Zelda Wii) was revealed and the game does use cel-shaded graphics.

Numerous reports have been hitting online today during the E3 2010 conference saying a small teaser was shown of Legend of Zelda Wii to prepare for tomorrow. Reports suggest the game will be cel-shaded (very similar to The Wind Waker) and had Link wielding an unknown blade. The video also showed Shigeru Miyamoto playing this new Zelda title with the Wii Motion Plus.

However I have been unable to find footage of this myself and am only going by online reports (such as Hyrule.net). If anyone can shed some light on this, please do so in the comments. So for now, take it as rumor until we get official confirmation tomorrow when Nintendo presents Zelda Wii.

I don’t buy it. Why would they show it before the show? They’re always very secretive about this kind of stuff. I mean that other leak was from a translator which is really out of their control. They wouldn’t do this.

Besides if it’s Cel Shaded why would the art be realistic?

Exactly. It’s not cel-shaded. We already know the art style – see the piece of official art released at last year’s E3.

    Not even remotely believable.

People shouldn’t compare the official artwork to the actual game design (take The Minish Cap for example, had the same style artwork as TWW yet it wasn’t a cel shaded game). And although a small teaser to preview tomorrow’s Nintendo conference is possible, I can’t say it happened since I have yet to see any documentation that it did. I will continue to try and find better credibility on this. Either way we’ll find out tomorrow morning.

Quote from Miyamoto on Zelda Wii’s art style, circa March 2009.

“I don’t think it’s going to change dramatically. We are doing it on the Wii [console]. That being said, we can look at Twilight Princess – it was built to run on both GameCube and Wii, and this one will be running only on Wii, so I think there will be differences inherent to the fact that it’s only on this platform.”

Seems to imply a realistic, Twilight Princess sort of visual style to me.

Probably fake but hey, I would love it if true.

@ Joel – A lot can happen while developing a game within a year, look at Ocarina of Time.

I’m still not buying it; sorry, I’m stubborn. :)

I just have a hard time believing that a title that has supposedly been in development since 2005 underwent a MAJOR graphical overhaul (i.e. “realistic” to “cel-shaded”) a year before its expected release.

Further, I don’t see how the original rumor is even plausible. The show floor at E3 isn’t even open yet, so there’s no way Nintendo could have shown this “mysterious trailer” to audiences without interrupting another press conference … which didn’t happen (although it certainly would have made the MS crap more bearable).

Well there was some behind the scenes Nintendo stuff going on today, Reggie Fils even posted some pics. But I’m not saying its true either man, just reporting the news and rumors is all. As stated earlier, we will all know 100% tomorrow morning.

That’s FAKE everyone who remembers when Capcom showed Monster Hunter Tri the team developing zelda were impressed by the graphic quality on wii and they said they’ll try to equal or even surpass that graphic quality with Zelda Wii. In a few hours we’ll know the truth :D

Definitely true, I was watching a live feed when they announced it. Somewhat cel-shaded (but definitely not as much as Wind Waker), but the motion plus was really getting off, and it was somewhat embarrassing watching them try to play the game. Oh well…

While Zelda Wii is cel-shaded (to some degree), I was right about the rumor being a hoax.

“The post about Zelda Wii being glimpsed upon was a prank I organized with the help of some of the other users, and I’m surprised at how much it grew.”

Haha I’m from Hyrule.net. There is a guy there who HATES the cel shading of games like WW and so we decided to play a prank on him by saying it was cel shaded. We didn’t expect it to spread anywhere! We giggled a little at it being cel shaded to the degree it was, we weren’t really expecting it to be true to any degree.
