With all the latest Zelda news finally dying down tonight from all the E3 excitement, I thought it would the perfect time to analyze the new Skyward Sword trailer and information and speculate what exactly was shown. First I will piece out however much information I can from the new trailer. Let’s start part one with the mysterious girl Link is shown with that is speculated to be Zelda.
Zelda or Phi?

Zelda has been confirmed to be in this game, but her exact role has not been revealed just yet. It is very possible that this young woman is in fact Zelda, lets take a look as to why exactly. The first clue would be the obvious resemblance between this girl and the version of Zelda from games such as A Link to the Past. She is also wearing what appears to be the early concept of the Hylian crest on her dress, which would mark her royal tie to Hyrule. It was also mentioned Zelda in a gameplay video of Skyward Sword when Link acquired an item, “You got the Bird Statue! It proves your victory today. Wait till Zelda sees this!”. This would be possibly implying that Link’s woman friend is in fact Zelda.
But let’s also think for a moment that this person could be the spirit of the Master Sword, now known as Phi (or Fi). In the trailer, it shows the first piece of footage of Phi and she is wearing the exact same medallion around her neck that this mysterious girl was also wearing. This same jewel is also seen on this new sword Link is wielding in this game.

But there really isn’t anything else to back this up at the moment.
The Noble Bird is the Phoenix from the Hylian Crest

The Hylian Crest has been shown throughout the Zelda series as a symbol of Hyrule’s Royal Family and Skyward Sword has used this crest as the game’s main theme as it is being used as the game’s logo (usually whatever item shown on a Zelda game’s logo is usually the key item in that game i.e. Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask and The Minish Cap). When playing the noble bird flight demo of Skyward Sword, something caught our attention.

See it? This new picture of this noble bird has a striking resemblance to the bird from the Hylian Crest. Check out a view pictures of the Hylian Crest below.

Seeing how this game tells the origins of Hyrule and the Master Sword, it is only logical it will tell the story of several other aspects of the Zelda series such as the Hylian Crest. Which brings me to my next point, the Master Sword and it’s connections to the Temple of Time and the sages, one being Rauru.
Rauru?

It has been speculated all day that this mysterious man that provides Link with the green garment known as the Hero’s clothes is said to be a young version of Rauru. There is an obvious strong resemblance between this mysterious person and the Rauru we were all introduced to in Ocarina of Time. Let’s check out a picture of Rauru and compare the two.
The first few features would obviously be the robe and facial features. They both wear a very similar orange and red garment which also has a few symbols some of you may have not noticed. So take a closer look, see it yet? The Triforce symbol (only the white area) on Rauru looks to be the exact same piece shown on this new character’s garment (both on the center of their body).
The next most obvious feature would be the facial hair and features. This new guy has a slimmer face but is also very similar to Rauru’s face. The facial hair, although not exactly the same, does have many similarities. But I would say he is looking more like a few of the Kings of Hyrule (such as the Kings shown in Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past and The Wind Waker).
So what do we know about Rauru? Well he was one of the seven sages, being the Sage of Light, that guarded the Triforce in the Temple of Light. He helped construct the Temple of Time to be the home of the Master Sword and the link to the Sacred Realm. Seeing how this game will tell the origin of those aspects, it is very possible we will be seeing Rauru along with the other sages in Skyward Sword. It has been confirmed that Skyward Sword is take place before Ocarina of Time and will in fact lay the foundation of the storyline for that game, as it was revealed officially by Nintendo today.
Link™ soars through the skies on the back of a noble bird and dives beneath the clouds to the continent below in an epic quest that lays the foundation for the events in the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
