Multiple sources such as IGN and Game Informer are reporting that Nintendo will unveil the Wii 2, also code named Project Cafe (rumored) at E3 this year and it will have features such as HD resolution, a 3D HD touch screen controller, backwards compatible with the Wii, Blue-ray disc player and much more (which are only rumors at the time). It has also been said this new Nintendo system will release sometime in 2012. We’ll just have to wait and see until we hear an official announcement from Nintendo or at E3 2011.

With that being said, what could be in store for the Legend of Zelda series? It could be possible they are already at work on a new console Zelda game other than Skyward Sword. It is however unlikely that Skyward Sword will be ported to Wii 2 like Twilight Princess was with the Gamecube and Nintendo Wii (other than the Wii 2 system possibly being backwards compatible). It is also possible we may see a console 3D Zelda title with this new Nintendo hardware.
If these rumors are indeed true then I find it lacking that we may only get one Zelda game meant for the Nintendo Wii. Sure, that console has run it’s course, but it seems they didn’t give the Zelda series the proper attention on that system as Nintendo did with other games such as the Super Mario franchise. Sure, we got Link’s Crossbow training, but that was only a spin off. Nonetheless, if the next console Zelda title does in fact release on “Project Cafe”, then I really hope Nintendo exceeds everyone’s expectations and create that game exclusively for the new system.

With enhanced HD graphics, Nintendo could truly make the fantasy world known as Hyrule come alive. A lively large overworld with amazing scenery and interactivity, large difficult and interactive dungeons, detailed towns and villages and pretty much anything you ever dreamed of coming to life in a Zelda game. Wouldn’t it be nice to get a complete 3D remake of titles such as The Adventure of Link or Link’s Awakening along with brand new titles. Everyone expected a lot to be in store for the Zelda franchise with the Wii, but if Skyward Sword is the only exclusive game, then we will all have to wait to see what the next console brings to the table.
A new Nintendo console also means the future and quality of all the mainstream games to do only one thing, succeed. We can only expect great things in store for the Legend of Zelda, anything is possible of what we will see by E3 2012. And with Skyward Sword possibly being the last big game for the Nintendo Wii, it is safe to say the official announcement of the Wii 2 will come soon along with games for that system that are possibly still just being worked on behind the scenes.
