Wii U Release Date

So, today we finally got our hands on the release date for the Wii U! The Wii U will get its first release in North America on November 18th (funny enough one of the release dates for Skyward Sword last year), in Europe 30th November and last but not least Japan 8th December. This means that it’s a little more then two months until the Wii U is released! Well, a little more for me, as I’m living in Europe.

The price for this baby comes in two variations; a basic white Wii U with 8GB for US$299.99 and a Premium in color black and an expanded memory of 32GB for US$ 349.99.

This is pretty exciting, yes. But I’m still not convinced I will buy one at release. Gaming library seems to be good as well as the other stuff, but I’d rather wait until the price drops and when we see a Zelda or for me, being a Metroid dork, a Metroid game. What about you?

You missed the preview event today? Do not fear, as you can see this from the beginning by checking out this: http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu

Also, I have been lacking time to post here. I started high school recently and have just been generally busy. Sorry for that, but the Zelda news have been quite lacking though, and that’s basically my work here. Hope everybody is doing great.

Darksiders Director Doesn’t Want His Game Compared To Zelda

Well, it looks like someone isn’t happy that his game is being compared to Zelda. I’m talking about Mr. Joe Madureira, Creative Director of Darksiders II. In his interview with the Official Nintendo Magazine (ONM,) he mentioned that he only want his new game be compared to the original Darksiders, and like 10 times bigger and better from that.

The thing is, many people are comparing his game to Zelda, with the ONM even mentioning in their preview of Darksiders II that it’s like Zelda in hell. Heck, I can even say Zelda in HD. Darksiders has a dungeon-based gameplay. If you have never played a Zelda game before, I will tell you right now what is its most important area where difficult battles always occur – in the dungeons!

In the Legend of Zelda series, there are always 3 key areas where Link will interact: the overworld, the towns and cities, and the dungeons. Each dungeon has a key item inside which you are going to use in either solving the puzzles and/or in beating the boss in that dungeon (yes, just like in Darksiders.) I could even say they are the most important parts of the game because you can never proceed in your adventure when you don’t finish them.

Darksiders has those and also some elements from God of War. In fact, it was even hailed as a perfect mesh of the two. Gaming Evolution even called it the best Zelda game that they’ve played. To be compared to the Legend of Zelda series is something that I think should be called a compliment.

But Mr. Madureira doesn’t want the sequel for Darksiders be called off as another one of Link’s game. However, it is important to note that the people who are calling it that way are actually praising it. The critics are lauding the fact that the game took the Zelda inspiration and made it darker and more visually entertaining.

Why is that so?

Simple. Because the Legend of Zelda is a great revolutionary series. If your game gets compared to such an institution, I guess the only thing you should do is to be flattered and take the compliment well.

Nintendo Wii 2 Confirmed – What’s in Store for Zelda?

Multiple sources such as IGN and Game Informer are reporting that Nintendo will unveil the Wii 2, also code named Project Cafe (rumored) at E3 this year and it will have features such as HD resolution, a 3D HD touch screen controller, backwards compatible with the Wii, Blue-ray disc player and much more (which are only rumors at the time). It has also been said this new Nintendo system will release sometime in 2012. We’ll just have to wait and see until we hear an official announcement from Nintendo or at E3 2011.

With that being said, what could be in store for the Legend of Zelda series? It could be possible they are already at work on a new console Zelda game other than Skyward Sword. It is however unlikely that Skyward Sword will be ported to Wii 2 like Twilight Princess was with the Gamecube and Nintendo Wii (other than the Wii 2 system possibly being backwards compatible). It is also possible we may see a console 3D Zelda title with this new Nintendo hardware.

If these rumors are indeed true then I find it lacking that we may only get one Zelda game meant for the Nintendo Wii. Sure, that console has run it’s course, but it seems they didn’t give the Zelda series the proper attention on that system as Nintendo did with other games such as the Super Mario franchise. Sure, we got Link’s Crossbow training, but that was only a spin off. Nonetheless, if the next console Zelda title does in fact release on “Project Cafe”, then I really hope Nintendo exceeds everyone’s expectations and create that game exclusively for the new system.

With enhanced HD graphics, Nintendo could truly make the fantasy world known as Hyrule come alive. A lively large overworld with amazing scenery and interactivity, large difficult and interactive  dungeons, detailed towns and villages and pretty much anything you ever dreamed of coming to life in a Zelda game. Wouldn’t it be nice to get a complete 3D remake of titles such as The Adventure of Link or Link’s Awakening along with brand new titles. Everyone expected a lot to be in store for the Zelda franchise with the Wii, but if Skyward Sword is the only exclusive game, then we will all have to wait to see what the next console brings to the table.

A new Nintendo console also means the future and quality of all the mainstream games to do only one thing, succeed. We can only expect great things in store for the Legend of Zelda, anything is possible of what we will see by E3 2012. And with Skyward Sword possibly being the last big game for the Nintendo Wii, it is safe to say the official announcement of the Wii 2 will come soon along with games for that system that are possibly still just being worked on behind the scenes.

Skyward Sword at GamesCom 2010

GamesCom has officially started and it looks like nothing new is being shown of Skyward Sword versus what was shown at E3 2010. Honestly though, Nintendo tends to promote their games much closer to release date, which means we probably won’t be seeing any major updates or trailers until the fall or winter. Nevertheless, we’ll update this post with Skyward Sword related news throughout the day so be sure to bookmark this page.

Ocarina of Time No Longer the Best Reviewed Game Ever

Ocarina of Time fans, you may want to sit down for this (as if you’d be standing anyway). The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is no longer the best reviewed game of all time according to GameRankings.com.

WHAT THE F-!?!

WAIT, hold on. The good news is, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is its replacement. I have to tell you, I’ve played and beaten Super Mario Galaxy 2, and it’s an incredible game. But is it worthy of besting Ocarina of Time?

No, not really. At least not in my opinion. And right now Ocarina of Time is still at the top on Metacritic, which is the site most people in the know prefer to use. Not saying they’re better, but it’s more popular by far.

As you probably know by now, Ocarina of Time is being remade for the Nintendo 3DS in glorious 3D (without the need for special glasses). In addition, improvements to the gameplay have been confirmed by Nintendo, like a difficulty decease to the dreaded Water Temple. It’s currently slated for release on launch day for the 3DS (so sometime before March 31st, 2011), so who knows if Ocarina of Time can reclaim its spot as the “number one game” of all time.

Skyward Sword to Feature Orchrestrated Music, And Much More

From IGN’s Nintendo Developer Roundtable live blog:

7:06: Question: Will Zelda have orchestral music and/or voice acting?

Answer: We can’t do what we did in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and not move forward and do the same thing in Zelda. We have people on staff looking forward to getting to work on that.

Read the live blog, which just ended recently HERE. It contains various tidbits of information on this exciting new Zelda straight from Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Anouma.

Watch Nintendo’s E3 2010 Press Conference Live Today

Nintendo’s E3 media briefing is TODAY at 9:00 am PT (that’s pacific time, so click here to find out when that is in your time zone).

Stream E3 presentation officially at e3.nintendo.com

G4TV will also be airing the show live on TV at 9:00 am PT, but in our experience their online stream isn’t that great. Also, GameSpot screwed up on us yesterday during the Microsoft press conference so we don’t recommend even trying them. The links we provided should be plenty. If one stream doesn’t work or is lagging, try another!

Be sure to check back to Zelda Chronicles for updates, our reactions to the live show, and maybe even some exclusive content from E3!

Ask Shigeru Miyamoto a Question for E3

Shigeru Miyamoto E3 Zelda Wii 2010IGN has setup a new feature in which everyone can submit their very own question to Shigeru Miyamoto himself which he might answer at E3 2010. However, they will only hand pick a select few of the hundreds if not thousands of questions. You will need an IGN account (it’s free to register) in order to submit your question. For a better chance of your question being asked, make it a unique one (nothing generic like when will Zelda Wii release or any similar type of question).

Our question: Are there any chances that a classic Legend of Zelda title could be remade into a 3D environment, say “The Adventure of Link” …maybe?
