Phil Fish’s Fez has a Homage to Zelda

Probably in one way or another, you’ve heard of Phil Fish – the developer who said modern Japanese games suck at this year’s GDC. Well, he did say “modern” right? Because why perhaps would a representation of the original Zelda’s title screen be at his indie game Fez? Take a look at the image below:

Above is the Legend of Zelda’s title screen. Below is Fez’ character Gomez’ house:

Fez Zelda

As Mr. Evans from Empty Lifebar have pointed out – the mountains that seemingly points down to the waterfall, the pink sky. I doubt Mr. Phil Fish never noticed this. Or maybe he did. I would have asked him on Twitter but alas, I think he’s not going to be there for a while.

Zelda Chronicles and every Zelda fan sites out there are keen with every homage the series gets in any form of media.  It is common knowledge that a prolific actor actually named his daughter after the princess. We feature Deviant Art users who make illustrations from the franchise. We are critical when other video games don’t want to be compared with the Zelda-style dungeons even though the comparison is very valid.

Whether we’re just fooling our eyes on the image above, it certainly looks like it pays homage to Zelda, and let’s just leave it at that.

Also, it looks like Mr. Fish loved the old Japanese games he grew up with.

Religious References in Zelda

In the early Legend of Zelda games, a player can find a lot of in game religious references. Many will recall the cross on Link’s magical shield, the book of magic which was originally called the Bible, the cross Link finds to see spirits in graveyards and towns, churches and sanctuaries through the land and several others you may not have picked up on. Well, IGN writer Lucas Thomas is creating a brand new project entitled “Zelda vs. Jesus” which will take a look at all those religious references. And with your help it can be published sooner than later. So why not swing over to his project and check it out!

For now, here are a few screenshots and official artwork referencing various religions.

Custom Made Magical Sword

Deviant Art user and Zelda Universe forum member Natfoe has taken the time to create several unique Zelda items by hand. One of them is a customized Magical Sword (Adventure of Link) replica created with wood. Now we have all seen dozens of Master Sword replicas and I think it is a breath of fresh air with this classic sword. Other unique items include the Gale Boomerang, rupee bag with rupees, Kokiri Sword and more. Check them all out below!

Wonderful Astral Observatory Piano Cover

Youtube user MMLeung has made another one of his amazing piano cover, this time the Astral Observatory theme from Majora’s Mask. Be sure to check the rest of his covers on his channel, he plays everything from Mario to Starfox to Zelda and the sound quality, as well as his playing, are truly wonderful. You might just say “Well this is just a piano cover, nothing special” but I find his covers to be better then most covers you can find on Youtube. Definitely check him out, you won’t regret it!

Wallmaster Makes Number 2 on Scariest Retro Enemies

Nothing to special here, just thought I’d share a video with you guys from Screw Attack that is essentially a top ten list of scariest retro enemies. And I would not be posting this at all if Zelda did not make the list. I also disagree that the “wallmasters” were worthy enough of being on the list. As I recall more menacing enemies than them (such as: the Fokka from AoL; the very fast bird like knights found in the Great Palace, the red Dairas; also from AoL, the red Bubbles from LoZ that would take your sword away permanently until Link runs into a blue Bubble oh and yeah the Cuccos from A Link to the Past). But in spirit of Halloween, here is their video nonetheless.

While we’re on the subject, what enemies do you recall to be “scary” from the retro Zelda (LoZ, AoL, ALttP and LA) titles?

Majora’s Mask Game of Death

When you thought the experience from Majora’s Mask could not become even more twisted and creepy to this day, you thought wrong. A speculated fan has submitted an in-depth haunting experience he recently had with Majora’s Mask in full detail. To read his (long) story on the matter, visit Zelda Informer. The experience follows the two videos below in which he also provided. Please note this is meant for entertainment purposes only, as it is obviously fake but very interesting nonetheless. Oh and props to whoever gets the name pun in the title of this article.
