New Skyward Sword Video – Entitled Epic Trailer

Nintendo of Europe has just released a brand new Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword trailer which is actually called epic trailer. This is for good reason to as it takes a ton of spoiler filled gameplay scenes from the entire game and mixes it with a collection of Skyward Sword music to form a 4 minute video. Although the game has already been out for a few months now, this is a must see whether you have played the game yet or not.

Miyamoto Talks Skyward Sword Prototype – A More Difficult Version of the Game

Entertainment Weekly recently conducted an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in which they discussed some Nintendo related topics, a few being the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Miyamoto states that he has only played the prototype version of Skyward Sword and claims that it was much more challenging than the finalized copy of the game. Read the interview below where he discusses this and also a few more interesting tidbits concerning the Zelda series including gameplay, story and a few extras!

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I just completed Skyward Sword, which really makes good use of the Motion Plus controller. Can you talk a little bit about how existence of Motion Control changes the development process of these videogames?

SHIGERU MIYAMOTO: First of all, thank you for completing Skyward Sword. You probably know more than I do when it comes to the game, because the version I played was actually the prototype. The version I played through was more challenging than the version you did.

The very first Legend of Zelda game for Wii was Twilight Princess. At the time when we were designing the Wii remote, we were thinking about incorporating the pointer functionality into the new Legend of Zelda game. I think, to some extent, our efforts worked out. For example: When players were trying to aim at some objects in order to shoot an arrow, or fire the hookshot, we came up with something really handy. Unfortunately, when the player was required to take a sudden and immediate action, and aim at something with a pointer, it took some time. And Link could not perfectly reproduce whatever you were doing.

We really wanted to do that. With the Wii Motion Sensing technology, it became possible. So we were able to incorporate the real sword-fight feature. It’s not like you’re just fighting by freely waving your sword. [In Skyward Sword], you need to see how your opponent is acting. You’re taking into consideration your opponent’s movements. It’s actually a real sword fight!

EW: You said that you had played an earlier version of Skyward Sword that was more challenging. How much more difficult was it?

SM: As the development period goes on, we get accustomed to the content and the gameplay and the riddles and whatnot. The developer is almost always thinking, “It’s too easy for me. It must be too easy for the player, as well.” The same with designing bosses: Because the developers are supposed to be very, very skillful in challenging these tough enemies, they often make the boss too tough. It’s a dilemma we always have as developers.

EW: In Skyward Sword, there’s a magic stone that will give the player hints if he gets lost. It reminds me of the Super Guide/Cosmic Guide function in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario Galaxy 2. Now, when I was a kid, I spent days trying to beat some of the difficult levels in Super Mario Bros. 3. If you could go back in time, would you create similar guide functions in those games?

SM: Back in those days, the ways in which we could entertain people in the videogame world were rather limited. And because of that, [having the gamers] find out any and all the solutions themselves was one of the most important elements. Today, there are many, many ways to entertain people in one single videogame. And the Internet has made it so easy for people to ask for clues. We are mindful of that changing circumstance. Whenever we are making the game, we are making it for those who really need and want to know about a solution or a hint. But there are those who do not want to ask for those kind of hints. They really want to solve any riddles or challenges for himself, for herself. We are mindful of both of these types of people whenever we are making these games today.

EW: If I understand the ending of Skyward Sword correctly, it’s supposed to be the prequel of the entire Legend of Zelda franchise. Is the chronology and story of the franchise something that interests you, or are you more focused on gameplay?

SM: Story is very important for Zelda. In terms of the priority order, first of all, of course, is making the best possible game ever over anything else. Second, we are doing best to make the story consistent throughout the entire series. Hopefully people won’t point out any contradictions.

EW: Both Mario and Zelda have celebrated their 25th anniversary. What’s it like to still be working on these franchises so many years later?

SM: When I first worked on the very first Mario game, I thought I would make Mario again and again, so that it would grow in conjunction with the technology. Mickey Mouse is a character that grew with the evolution of animation technology and motion picture technology. I thought that maybe I could do the same thing with Mario — he would be the character who grew with the evolution of digital technology. But I didn’t know if Mario could really be appealing to fans. The fact that Super Mario could celebrate the 25th anniversary last year might be the testament that people are appreciating it.

EW: Last question: In a couple of different Zelda games, there’s a mysterious hand that appears that’s never really explained. In Skyward Sword, the hand appears in a toilet. Can you explain to me what that hand is?

SM: In the original Legend of Zelda game, a gigantic hand appears and grabs you at the entrance to a dungeon. Actually, that has nothing to do with Skyward Sword. [Laughs] It’s actually something from a Japanese ghost story. Not a specific ghost story. There are some ghost stories in Japan where — when you are sitting in the bathroom in the traditional style of the Japanese toilet — a hand is actually starting to grab you from beneath. It’s a very scary story.

You can continue reading the rest of the interview here where Miyamoto also discusses Mario Kart and Pikmin 3 if you are interested.

A Bunch of Zelda news!

Hello guys and girls, I’ve got some pretty exciting news for you today!

Firstly, the winner of the GOTY Award that G4 held is.. Skyward Sword! It also got honored with the best soundtrack award! I’m so happy that the game got the award because even though the game wasn’t the best in my opinion I truly think Zelda deserves some glory after 25 years of being the beloved and amazing franchise it is! Skyward Sword won some pretty tough competitions, and I know a lot of people had to make hard choices, but it won, so hurray hurray for our winner, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword!

Secondly, the game has got a game-breaking glitch that seems to occur by doing this (in a response from Nintendo last week). I copy and paste it for you guys who hasn’t completed the game yet, haven’t seen it and wish to read it so you know what to avoid.

…- The situation is caused by performing the following sequence of events during the Song of the Hero quest:
At the beginning of the quest, go to Lanayru Desert to retrieve the song of the Thunder Dragon.
In the Lanayru Mine, speak with Golo the Goron.
Complete the Thunder Dragon’s event, and receive his song.
Before heading to the forest or volcano regions, speak with Golo in the mine again.
At this point, the forest and volcano events will no longer occur, making it impossible to continue.

Solutions:

This issue WILL NOT OCCUR if the Fire and Water Dragon songs have already been collected before collecting the Thunder Dragon’s song. Talking to Golo in the Lanayru Caves will also NOT trigger this issue.

If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue…-”

Nintendo has offically said that they will fix this glitch by either a downloadable fix or by sending in the SD card to them. The problem is that this is for Japan, so we haven’t got any confirmation if this will be happening in other parts of the world. If you got affected by it, I’m holding my thumbs for you that it will work out, because starting the game all over again is not fun at all and not really acceptable either from Nintendo’s side if they decided to do nothing for us non-japanese people.

Thirdly, a special book is being released for the 25th anniversary called Hyrule Historia with a little more in-depth stories and information about Zelda and a lot of nice concept art with a bunch of more goodies. It will be yours for 3,255 Yen (about US $40) and is released the 21th december 2011. This is something I’d love to get, but I haven’t seen a confirmation about that it will be translated and sold outside of Japan. I’ll keep my eyes on it as the collector I am, definitely.

Talking about collecting stuff, if you’re interested in completing your Gold triforce wiimote with a gold nunchuk, this will probably be really interesting for you! Of course, only avaible in Japan so far, but I’m hoping that other regions can take part of this offer too! You can get it through Club Nintendo when you’ve collected 600 points, and just 400 points if you sent in the points for your Skyward Sword copy. Sadly, Sweden no longer has a Club Nintendo, so I’m kinda sad over it, but if you guys in other parts of the world have the chance to get it, I’ll be really happy for you but jealous, of course..

So, a lot of good news at once. What are your thoughts?

Skyward Sword comic part four

Hi guys, here’s the fourth part of the Skyward Sword comic! Next Tuesday I’m putting an alarm, because it’s a little hard remembering as I live in Sweden and the comic usually is released when it’s Wednesday for me and then I don’t think about it. I haven’t been so active here on posting stuff as I’m busy with the walkthrough for SS. Next Tuesday is the last part released! Oh well, time flies. Enjoy it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I’m working on my impressions for SS! I beat the game a few days ago, so now I think it’s time to write down what I thought of it.

Also people, if you really liked SS, go vote for it on the final round in G4 GOTY Deathmatch! There’s still a couple of days left, but you should definitly do it if you consider SS a worthy winner. Assassin’s Creed could give SS a really hard time, but I’m hoping for SS to win! Here’s the link to it: http://www.g4tv.com/vgdm/best-game-2011/vote/210/assassinscreedrevelations-vs-zeldaskywardsword/

Skyward Sword Comic all three parts

Last week I totally forgot to show the second part of the Skyward Sword comic, and another one has been released, so here’s the three parts that has been released so far. If you have missed out this comic it’s an offical Nintendo SS comic made by the famous Penny Arcade. And if you already have seen it all it can’t hurt to see it again, right? It’s released every Tuesday, so I’ll promise to keep it in mind until next week.

Skyward Sword Releases in Japan

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword just released two days ago in North America, and now it has officially been released in Japan, worldwide following. There have been so many reviews to even keep up with, and I find it best not to spoil you all with the massive amounts of videos and details getting leaked…just yet that is. I am at work at completing guides for the game at the moment. I figure around the end of December would be a good time to release spoiler filled videos and screens. But in the mean time, stay tuned for our extensive guides, and check out Zelda Dungeon’s walkthrough as well while we get ours online.

But in the coming weeks, we will be updating all our Skyward Sword sections, so if you do not want to be spoiled I suggest avoiding them until a later time. When we complete a guide, we will also post it in the front page to let those that have the game know that is has been completed. You can also check out what has recently been updated or added in the website’s side menu, even before it has been officially added to the game’s index.

And if you have picked your copy of Skyward Sword up already, then by all means feel free to discuss your experience in the comments! You can also look forward to our own impressions and reviews in the coming weeks.

A Short Look at Skyward Sword

Hi everybody! Just played some Skyward Sword, and man.. this game… Absolutely amazing.

I got it yesterday (as I’m living in Europe) with the limited edition bundle with the 25th Anniversary CD and the Golden Wii Remote, and I have to say that the Wii Remote is really cool (it’s gold and with a Triforce on, nuff said) and the CD.. frickin’ awesome. Just you wait, readers – I do hope you pre-ordered the bundle. It costs a lot but it’s totally worth it, especially if you don’t have a Wii Motion Plus like me. Or if you are a hungry collector. Or if you just want it.

I’m already 11 hours in the game, just on my way to the second temple. That can maybe make you grasp how long this game is, not to my displeasure of course. I have to admit that I have been just looking around for new places to do something at the most of the time, the overworld and Skyloft all have new places and new people to find. The graphics are astounding and beautiful, especially when you sitting in front of your TV playing it. Despite this game being a little harder when it comes to combat, it’s really fun and make you think (which can be aggrivating for a not-so-patient girl like me), both in boss battles, temples and outside in the Sky or on the surface. Definitly not like the other games. I still have yet to say if it’s the best Zelda out there, or if it beats my favorite game Wind Waker (which means it has a lot to prove!), but we’ll see. I have a lot to play left!

I’ll not say much more as it’s releasing tomorrow for Americans and a few more days for Japan and Australia. I want you to get your own opinions and see the game for yourself, therefore I’ll be doing my Impressions article when it’s released for everybody and when I have played through it (which will take a while). But one last thing before I’ll leave you with this awesome metal cover made by Youtube user ArtificialFear.

You won’t get disappointed.

Tingle Confirmed in Skyward Sword

Well, not Tingle himself, but a doll version of him. You can find this doll by peaking through a crack wall in the Knight’s academy into Zelda’s room. But, you can also find a secret passage into Zelda’s room via the roof to get a close up of Tingle.

With that note, we have also opened up our easter eggs and secrets section for Skyward Sword. If you have found something interesting in the game that we have not covered, why not send it on in to us for it to possibly be added to the section.

Skyward Sword Releases in Europe

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has finally officially released in Europe and in two short days releasing in North America followed by Japan. It is safe now to provide any spoiler from the game, however unlike most websites we will not be spoiling the game for you by providing the ending or final boss battle or anything like that. I’d rather just continue work on the Skyward Sword guide sections, which you will witness in the following days so look forward to all that. Plus, our staff member Naabooru has received her copy of the game as well and will be writing impressions very shortly.

But hey, here’s a little teaser from the game..

Skyward Sword release tomorrow

Error 1384: The following fangirl was not found in file 129: ‘Writing posts and being active’. The file may be in file 2203: ‘Fangirling about upcoming Zelda’. Look in the enclosed instruction booklet for further information.

Joke aside, tomorrow is S.K.Y.W.A.R.D S.W.O.R.D releasing in Europe and for once I’m actually happy for living all the way here in Sweden which is in Europe which means I’m getting it tomorrow. Wiihooo! I don’t feel like posting any news about it is extremely necessary, just because I think most information is already released and it’s just days until we all will get it. But I will be posting about the first thoughts of Skyward Sword on Saturday probably, as I need to play it and just breath Skyward Sword tomorrow. Tsssk, what a fangirl I am. But aren’t we all? We have been waiting five whole years for this game, and looking back at the gaps between the older games it’s not much more then maybe 3 years or so. But as I said, looking at reviews, footage and information can at least make me come to one conclusion, it’s totally worth the wait. Hopefully, that conclusion is right. Can’t the time go a little faster..? Hehe.

I will probably not post anything tomorrow, we’ll see. But, on Saturday I’ll post about my first impressions, then after finishing the game a more in depth article.. if everything goes right!
